Michael Anderson succeeds John Porter who has stepped down to become CEO of Belgian based telco, Telenet.
Mr Anderson was Chief Executive of Austereo from 2003-10 after spending 13 years with the network in sales and marketing and as Chief Operating Officer.
Mr Anderson is also on the boards of Fairfax and Oztam.
Other members of the board include CHAMP representatives Darren Smorgon, Patrick Rodden, and Barry Zuckerman, advertising veteran Geoffrey Wild, founder and Chief Executive of oOh! Brendon Cook, oOh! Executive Director Chris Bregenhoj and independent director Jennifer Tejada.
Mr Cook said he looked forward to working with Mr Anderson as oOh! continued to drive new innovations and opportunities for advertisers to connect with consumers on a deeper level.
“It is an exciting time for away from home media with technology being introduced at a faster pace than ever before to meet demand from marketers for not only awareness but real interaction with their brands,” Mr Cook said.
“In the past year, we have introduced place based formats in environments such as cafés, hotels and sports facilities, launched a number of away from home campaigns using NFC and QR technologies and delivered a raft of new digital retail panels which encourage and allow strong interaction from shoppers.
“I am excited by the proven media skills and extensive knowledge that Michael will bring to the board. He has been there and done that when it comes to media and given that Austereo was the owner of EYE Retail for a period during his tenure, he is also well across the industry.”
Mr Smorgon, who led the takeover of the then listed oOh! Media in 2012, said Mr Anderson was a tremendous appointment with his proven track record in building a strong media business.
“He succeeded in radio – which of all other mediums has the most similar challenges and opportunities to Out Of Home – through implementing systems, strategies and processes based on experience he gained from working across all parts of the business,” Mr Smorgon said
“While it was disappointing that John has moved on, we feel Michael will be a great asset to the company.
“Michael’s ideas will undoubtedly make oOh!’s very good sales and marketing team into a great team.”
Mr Anderson said oOh! was an exciting media company that had significant opportunity.
“In my dealings with the market, it is clear that there is a positive view of the sector and most believe it has a future of continuing growth when other mediums are facing challenges,” Mr Anderson said.
“Having seen Brendon when he was a competitor to Austereo’s EYE Retail business, I was excited by the opportunity to be a part of oOh!.
“I was impressed with what oOh! has achieved to date, its aggressive growth strategy and the vision that Brendon has in setting the standard of the Australian Out Of Home sector.
“I look forward to joining oOh! and being part of the team.”
