oOh! Media Green Initiative.
We pride ourselves on our out-there thinking, and are dedicated to exploring innovative ways of minimising our carbon footprint. From simple ideas like changing the light globes in all of our offices, to big ideas like our multi-million dollar partnership with Landcare Australia.
Our goal is to dramatically reduce our environmental footprint across our operations and set a new benchmark for the out-of-home industry.
oOh! is focused on not only changing the way we do things, but how we can educate and lead the advertising industry as a whole. As we recently discovered in a survey of key media planners and buyers, the environment is yet to play a role in the way advertisers brief media campaigns, how they are planned, or which mediums are utilised and the differences in their carbon footprints. See the results for yourself!

Landcare’s status in Australia as the leaders in environmental sustainability is second to none. They successfully bring government, the community and business together with their practical approach to protecting and repairing our environment.
This partnership provides an opportunity for Landcare to promote their Landcare & Coastcare initiatives to the public, as well as provide Landcare’s partners with the platform to support their own community projects.

At oOh!, we are currently trialling a new LED floodlighting system to replace the metal halide lights the industry presently utilises on large format signage. When we introduce this change, we will save a staggering 2,600 tonnes of CO2 every year. That is the equivalent of taking over 500 cars off the road!
We have also commenced the manufacture of a newly designed ShopaLite unit that utilises an LED lighting system instead of fluorescent tubes. This will result in the new unit consuming up to 90% less power than the traditional tube based signs.
Sometimes the simplest of ideas can also be the brightest.
oOh! currently uses Green Power at 37 sites across Melbourne. Supplied by Origin Energy, this electricity uses 20% wind power and will save up to 60 tonnes of CO2 over the next year.
This is just the beginning. We are moving all electricity accounts to the best green option available in each market across Australia.
Bioflex is a revolutionary PVC material that once exposed to conditions in landfill, the material attracts microbes that turn it into dust! We also offer new polyethylene skins printed with biodegradable inks.
And we have introduced a new poster substrate option for oOhretail! clients, using recyclable PET film made from items such as recycled soft drink bottles. After the poster has been used it can then be recycled again into council garbage bins!
And it doesn’t end there.
oOh! as part of the outdoor industry body the OMA, participates in aid relief measures, by sending used billboard skins overseas for use as shelter and general purpose aid. To date we have provided relief in Thailand, Burma and North QLD following the natural disasters that have occurred in these areas.
And when we are not reutilising the skins in this way, we are recycling 20-25% of them into consumer goods such as bags and tents.
But did you know that oOh! is committed to reducing the energy consumption of its mobile fleet, and has by 33% per vehicle, through the creation of mobile schedules that drive to key locations and park in high traffic areas?
And oOh! is also reviewing the latest advances in emission control and fuel saving technologies for our fleet.
Now our clients can be seen and be green.
